Biography

Shawn has concentrated her practice in two distinct areas: health care and the environment. While seemingly dissimilar, both fields are dominated by extensive and complex regulations and the use of technical experts. Whether a client's legal needs involve the application of an intricate set of regulations or the examination of a highly specialized expert witness, Shawn is able to advocate her client's interests confidently. She is a frequent speaker on all areas of healthcare law including the HIPAA privacy and security regulations. In the past, Shawn has taught Environmental Law as an adjunct professor in the Department of Geology and Geography at Western Kentucky University. She has developed an area of expertise in advising local governments on solid waste issues. While Shawn's current practice has focused upon these specialized areas of the law, her experience as a staff attorney for the Kentucky Court of Appeals and an Assistant Warren County Attorney provides her with a background of experience in a wide range of legal issues.

Shawn has in the past served on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Kentucky and the Board of Directors of Girls, Inc., a local organization that provides constructive social and educational after school programming for young women. Shawn has also served as a volunteer with Junior Achievement and is a graduate of the Leadership Bowling Green program. She is a past nominee for the Bowling Green Athena Award as well as the Bowling Green Human Rights Commission Professional Woman of Distinction. Shawn currently serves as a deacon in her church and is an active volunteer at W.R. McNeill Elementary School where her children are students.
