R. Alexander Thomason

Alex was raised in Maryville, Tennessee-a small town in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. He received his undergraduate degree and J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. During law school, Alex worked as an Acquisitions Editor for the Tennessee Law Review, won awards in several moot court competitions, and argued a case in front of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals as a student attorney.

After graduating, Alex served as a law clerk to the Honorable Gregory Stivers, District Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky, and to the Honorable Eugene Siler, Jr., Senior Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He thoroughly enjoyed his clerkships and believes that his years spent working for judges helped him polish his writing and critical thinking skills.

During his year clerking for Judge Stivers, Alex and his wife developed a strong connection to Bowling Green, so they decided to make it their home. Alex took the Kentucky bar in July 2019, and is now licensed to practice in both Kentucky and Tennessee.

Although most of his Saturdays are spent watching college sports, Alex is also an avid runner. While he has competed in races in several different states and countries, his favorite events are the ones hosted right here in Bowling Green. Can't beat the hometown support!

Alex is married to Sara Thomason, a professor at WKU. They enjoy traveling, cooking, going to the movies, and attending Hilltopper football and basketball games together.
